City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) and the University of Cambridge have established the Centre for Advanced and Smart Manufacturing (CASM), a Hong Kong research centre that uses additive manufacturing as its core technology platform. CASM will apply 3D printing to four application areas: data centre cooling, next-generation refrigeration, lightweight new energy vehicles and materials for consumer electronics.
Based at Hong Kong Science Park, the centre operates under the government’s InnoHK initiative as part of the SEAM@InnoHK research cluster. It is co-led by Professor Lu Jian, Chair Professor in CityUHK’s Department of Mechanical Engineering, and Professor Colm Durkan of the University of Cambridge, and brings together researchers from Hong Kong and abroad working on materials, man
